The new agreement allows contractors to use beginner apprentices to compare available internships and job opportunities. This allows contractors to provide more competitive occupancy costs while preserving the sector`s skilled workforce to meet future needs for skilled electricians. The recruitment and placement of minority workers and women improved when the new procedure was piloted in 2012. During Greg`s 30 years in our industry, he had all the positions in bekneiden, including steward (yard and store), foreman and master general. When Greg learned the skills of our trade, he felt called to serve the workers in his community and the IBEW. Greg`s commitment to improving IBEW Local 1 extended beyond his normal working day when he became active in local work and politics. His willingness to serve and his assiduous participation in our local union led in 1993 to his appointment by Business Manager Donald Bresnan to the IBEW COMET Instructor (an unpaid position), a responsibility he would assume with dedication until 1999. A year later, in 1994, Business Manager Bob Miller recognized Greg`s talent and commitment and offered him a full-time organizing position and recommended him for appointment to the audit committee, a recommendation that was passed unanimously. In our recent history, Greg has worked closely with our 11th District International Organization in several production organizations, while he still led the successful “top down” organization of electrical contractors in St. Louis and never “disconnected” his staff once. Greg`s success as an organizer led to his appointment in 1999 as an economic representative in St. County. Charles, Warren and Lincoln of our jurisdiction.

Under the leadership of the late economic representative Jim Reinheimer, Greg successfully negotiated several contracts, many of which resulted in higher percentages of wages and benefits than those granted by the simultaneous domestic agreement. Throughout his career, Greg has worked tirelessly to complement his skills by continuing his training both inside and outside of our great organization. In 2003, Greg was one of 60 people selected to participate in the prestigious FOCUS leadership training. As General (and President) Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “In preparing for battle, I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable,” and we all know that planning means nothing without the qualifications necessary for success. Elder Greg Booth the extensive list of qualifications modeled a 24/7 commitment to our fraternity and to the St. Louis working class community at large. Greg Booth`s decision to guide us was made decades ago, and his immersion in “all things of work” served to promote strong personal relationships with virtually every labor leadership in St. Louis. Brother Booth`s comprehensive understanding of the structural hierarchy within the organized working class community and his deep understanding and participation in our state legislature prepared him more than anyone else to lead the IBEW.
